An LMIA is a document issued by Employment and Social Development Canada (ESDC), the department responsible for the labor market at the federal level. A positive LMIA shows that there is a need for a foreign worker to fill the job, and that no Canadian worker or permanent resident is available to do it. A positive LMIA is sometimes called a confirmation letter.
